The Larrivee OM-09 draws from the classic Orchestra Model design developed in the late 1920’s as banjo players migrated to guitar. This model features a Sitka Spruce top paired with Indian Rosewood for the sides and back. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany, with Ebony for the bridge, head plate and bound fingerboard.
OM09
The Larrivée OM09 is based on the classic Orchestra Model guitars that first appeared in the opening days of the 1930’s as banjo players migrated to guitar but found they needed access to more frets. These models provide a well-balanced tonal representation throughout the harmonic range with plenty of volume, making them ideal for fingerstyles or strumming. This Larrivée OM09 was built during 2001 at the Larrivée shop in Oxnard, California. It’s in overall good condition with a few small dents on the top edge of the headstock, and a lacquer crack along the center seam below the bridge.

MORE →The Larrivee OM 09 is based on the classic ‘Orchestra Model’ design dating to 1929, and is itself based on the 000 body size but with the upper bouts adapted to accommodate a 14-fret neck. At first, this model was named after Perry Bechtel, the prominent banjo player who custom ordered it; however, Martin soon realized that ‘Orchestra Model’ had better appeal to migrating banjo players, and never used the Bechtel name in catalogs.

MORE →The Larrivee OM 09K is the Koa version of the normally Rosewood bodied OM-09 Artist model, based on the classic Orchestra Model design dating back to the late 1920s. This body design originated with Martin, and is very similar to the 000 models, but the OM has a longer scale length – 25.5 inches compared to the 000’s 24.9 inches. This increases brightness, clarity and volume. The OM body also produces a well balanced tonal representation throughout the spectrum.
