❌SOLD❌ Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail Sunburst, 1978

❌SOLD❌ Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail Sunburst, 1978

Here we have a Fender Stratocaster HardTail, built at the Fullerton plant during 1978, during the CBS era. The HardTail version was made from 1955 until 2006, when poor sales caused Fender to drop the HardTail model. The two Stratocaster versions are very similar, but the fixed hardtail bridge model doesn’t have the large cavity routed on the back for the trem block and springs. Without that cavity and the spring components, the Fender Stratocaster HardTail tends to have a bit more sustain and note-to-note clarity and separation, as with the Telecaster. Of course, this means it does not have the ‘built-in reverb’ contributed by the springs, whether the bridge is set to trem use, or fully tightened down for tuning stability.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Junior Sunburst, 1954

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Junior Sunburst, 1954

Here we have a wonderful rarity! One of the first Gibson Les Paul Junior Sunburst models built, from 1954 when the Junior was introduced. Intended as an entry level, student model, the Gibson Les Paul Junior Sunburst – the only finish it came in – was a bare-bones but high quality guitar with Tropical Mahogany for the body and neck, and Rosewood for the fingerboard; for most if not all of the Junior’s production run between 1954 and 1963 when it was discontinued, this meant Brazilian Rosewood. Position markers are simple Mother of Pearl dots.

❌SOLD❌ Fender Tele Sonic Chambered Solidbody Sunburst, 2003

❌SOLD❌ Fender Tele Sonic Chambered Solidbody Sunburst, 2003

The Fender Tele Sonic was built from 1998 to 2003, combining elements of several classic designs – the construction methods of the Fender Telecaster, the scale length of a Gibson style guitar, and a pair of DeArmond 2K single coil pickups, like a Gretsch Jet. There are other notable differences from stock models to the Fender Tele Sonic. The body is Honduran Mahogany, with tone chambers added. This would typically mean that, like the Telecaster Thinline, the top of the body blank is sliced off, tone and wiring chambers routed, the cap is restored and the body finished.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Junior Cherry, 1962

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Junior Cherry, 1962

Gibson first introduced the Les Paul Junior with their 1954 model lineup as their lowest price student model, with one pickup and no frills. It kept that position until 1959, when it was bumped by the Melody Maker. From 1954, the Les Paul Junior had a profile very much like the Les Paul itself – it looked like the Les Paul’s Mahogany back, just without the carved Maple cap. For 1958, Gibson was shifting to double cutaway bodies, reflected in the brand new ES-335, and the Junior also got a double cutaway treatment.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Special TV Yellow, 1993

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Special TV Yellow, 1993

The construction of the Gibson Les Paul Special is simple. Mahogany is used for a slab body, and the neck. Rosewood is used for the bound fingerboard – and that’s it for wood selection. Hardware is also straightforward, with Kluson Deluxe tuners at the head – originally strip tuners, now individual gears -and at the other end, a stop bar tailpiece. Electronics include a pair of P-90 single coil pickups, pickup selector and individual volume and tone controls; the output jack is on the side.
