National Resonator Concert Maple Ukulele

National Resonator Concert Maple Ukulele

A couple of times every year, we are lucky enough to get our hands on one of these beauties: the Resonator Concert Maple Ukulele from National Guitars. In the past, we have featured a few Custom versions with extra detailing and appointments. Today, we have the standard version available; same great sound and feel at an even better price. This instrument is a performer’s dream. Thanks to the 5 7/8″ spun resonator cone, the National Uke gives more volume and punch than any other Uke available. Most guitarists, myself included, get hand cramps just looking at a standard soprano Uke, but the National is built to a 15″ concert scale, making it far more comfortable to play. The Grover 4 B tuners are smooth and accurate, and like every instrument National builds, the quality and craftsmanship is top notch.

National NRP 14 Fret

National NRP 14 Fret

The National NRP brings back memories – I owned one of the few original 1930s National Duolians that I have seen in my 40 odd years in this business that did NOT need a reset and had not history of amateur repairs…and foolishly sold it. The good part is that it went to a pro player who actually regularly gigs with it. I loved this guitar and have always been on the lookout for another. Unfortunately, most 1930s have severely overbowed necks, funky neck sets and played out original low-grade aluminum cones.

❌SOLD❌ National Resophonic Guitars Baritone El Trovador

This is a stock El Trovador resonator guitar, but with an extended 27″ scale length. Strung up with 15-69 gauge strings and set in standard baritone B to B tuning, I couldn’t believe the rich warm boom that came from the guitar with my first strum. The ring and articulation were classic National, but with a deeper drone and even longer sustain than usual (which is saying a lot!).

It started with a 35th Anniversary model and Bob Taylor liked the design so much that the 12 Fret Grand Concert model was put into regular production. This wonderfully comfortable guitar features a Sitka spruce top, Indian Rosewood sides and back, a 12 fret neck to body design with a slotted head stock, venetian cutaway and Taylor ES pickup system.

Martin’s HD-28 has been quietly out-selling most other dreadnoughts of ANY brand name for the last ten years. This model is perhaps the perfect blend of vintage features and modern improvements with its traditional scalloped bracing pattern, tortoiseshell pickguard & herringbone marquetry combined with a modern low profile neck and intonation compensated bridge!

❌SOLD❌ Martin 00-28VS (Discontinued)

Here we’re featuring the recent reissue of the Martin 00-28VS. Believe it or not, this model was initially introduced in 1898 … and at that time was the largest guitar they produced! Of course today this little 14″ parlor style guitar is sought after for its exceptionally even string-to-string response with a fundamental-rich warm overall tonality!
