National Reso-Phonic M-1 Cutaway Tricone

National Reso-Phonic M-1 Cutaway Tricone

The wood body National Reso-Phonic M-1 Cutaway Tricone blends the sound of a tricone with the warmth of wood, and has a lighter weight as a bonus.Outfitted with National’s new-alloy cones and aluminum T-bridge, the National M-1 Cutaway uses a mahogany laminate for the body, with solid mahogany for the neck and ebony for the bound fingerboard. The cover-plate is steel, and is hand-painted to match the colour tone of the top woods.

National Style 1.5 Tricone Resophonic Guitar Nickel, 2004

National Style 1.5 Tricone Resophonic Guitar Nickel, 2004

This example of the National Style 1.5 Tricone Resophonic is dated 09-04 (September 2004) and is in overall good condition. The body is brass with nickel plating and a double-line engraving around the edge (the nickel plating presents a few challenges to capturing an image).   Nickel has a tendency to lightly tarnish over time; this is one of the reasons many shifted to Chrome as a longer lasting plating material.

National Resophonic T-14 Cutaway Tricone, Weathered Steel

National Resophonic T-14 Cutaway Tricone, Weathered Steel

Here we have a National Resophonic T-14 Cutaway Tricone in a Weathered Steel finish. The official model number is ‘T-14WS’, and it’s a slim, steel bodied, three cone resophonic guitar with a 14-fret neck. And at under eight pounds, it weighs less than many solid body electrics! The T-14 Cutaway Tricone is full-scale guitar, at 25.66 inches. This requires a bit more tension on the strings and the cones, which can result in increased volume.

Republic Highway 61 Cutaway Resophonic Guitar

Republic Highway 61 Cutaway Resophonic Guitar

The Republic Highway 61 has a single cone resonator, 12 inch wide body – around the size of a Les Paul, and has a 25 inch scale length with 1 13/16 inch nut width. The body sports lattice soundholes like those on a Tricone model, so there’s lots of space for air to move. These sound good, and the smaller size makes them a lot of fun, and easy to play.

The mahogany body National Reso-Phonic M-1 Tricone retains the lush complex trebles of the National Style 1 but the wood body changes the character of the bass response: in short, the bass is huge!
