Over the years, the Gibson Les Paul Standard has gained and iconic position in the guitar pantheon, though it has been in and out of favour as time passed. Built during 1976, about halfway through Norlin’s ownership, this Gibson Les Paul Standard sports a classic tobacco sunburst finish.

Fender MusicMaster Red, 1975

Here we’re looking at a Fender MusicMaster in Red finish, built during 1975 in Fullerton, California during the era of CBS ownership. This 24 inch scale length example is in good, complete condition and has some dents and finish wear expected after 48 years. This very cool guitar plays well looks great and sounds good. The 24 inch scale doesn’t feel very short – it is also the same scale length as the considerably more elaborate Fender Jaguar.

Martin D12-35 12 Fret Round Shoulder Dreadnought, 1975 (No Longer Available)

Introduced in 1965, and no longer in production, the Martin D12-35 12-fret was the 12-string version of the classic Martin D35, visually notable for its three section Rosewood back. This Martin D12-35 example dates to 1975 and pairs a Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood for the sides, three-piece back, bridge plate, and thin headstock veneer.

Fairbanks Vega Whyte Laydie No.2 Banjo, 1910

Following its original form as an A.C Fairbanks product, the Fairbanks Vega Whyte Laydie featured a natural finish on the maple neck and pot which provided its name. However, the real innovation was the Whyte Ladyie tone ring and bracket band, reducing the number of holes drilled and adding mass to the pot.

This Ibanez GB10 George Benson model was built during 2005 for Ibanez by FujiGen Gakki at Matsumoto in the Nagano province of Japan. While most of the GB10’s have been built by FujiGen, during the 1980’s some were built by Terada. The Ibanez George Benson GB10 has been in production since 1977 along with other versions of the model, and they are as practical as when introduced.

This Fender Stratocaster Natural, has an Ash body with Maple neck and was built during 1977 in Fullerton California and with a few period modifications – a brass nut and saddles, and EMG pickups. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, many players sought new ways to customize their instruments for new sounds and capabilities, and this led to the proliferation of third-party parts and pickup suppliers.
