We’ve just received a few new pieces from Hofner, including this Club Bass from the Contemporary series. We make two slight modifications – we restring them with LaBella flats for a more authentic ‘Beatley’ sound, and replace the stock knobs with the much classier ‘teacup’ style.

Hofner made a lot of popular instruments in the late 50’s and early ’60’s. This is a rare example of their doubleneck 191 model. It’s recently been overhauled in our shop and looks great, plays well, and has that early ’60’s sound.

The Hofner 500/1 ‘Beatle Bass’ was a very influentual instrument. Though it was outstripped by the Fender and Rickenbacker basses as stage volume levels rose exponentially and feedback became a very real problem, many popular recordings featured this instrument. This example is in good original shape and is fully playable.
