No Longer Available!!! Gibson ES-175D, 1965 (consignment)

Here is a lovely Gibson ES-175D from 1965. It’s in good condition and sounds great. Cherry lacquer sunburst finishes fade in a very attractive manner, and this one is no exception.

The ES-175 was introduced in 1949 as a lower cost, electric version of the L-4, and was the first Gibson electric to feature the pointed ‘Florentine’ cutaway. It’s been in production ever since. Until 1953, the ES-175 was a single pickup guitar; at that point a second pickup was added and the guitar became the ES-175D. In 1957, the new Gibson humbuckers were added.

Gibson L-4C Archtop, 1952 (consignment) Sold

Gibson L-4C Archtop, 1952 (consignment) Sold

Here is a very nice Gibson L-4C from 1952. The L-4C was a cutaway version of the L4, and while this guitar was originally fully acoustic the pickup has been added to the pickguard so the body isn’t modified. The L-4 and L-4C feature a fully hollow body with a carved spruce top coupled with maple laminate back and sides. The L-4 was produced from 1912 to 1956 and the L-4C was produced from 1949 to 1971.

Supro ‘Super’ model, 1960 SOLD

Supro 'Super' model, 1960 SOLD

Here’s a really cool Supro Super model, built in 1960. Even less usually, this is a two-pickup model. The Super is a short-scale – 22 inch! – guitar likely intended for students.

This instrument features a ‘silverburst’ finish, basically a white to black sunburst; this has also been used by Gibson on some Les Paul Custom models and by Fender, who named it ‘Antigua’.

Gibson Les Paul Junior Lite, 1999 (consignment) SOLD

Gibson Les Paul Junior Lite, 1999 (consignment) SOLD

Now THIS is a rock guitar! Here’s a Gibson Les Paul Junior Lite from 1999, looking remarkably like a Les Paul Special. The Les Paul Special was introduced in 1955 as a sincle-cutaway guitar to provide a lower cost model in the Les Paul line, and it immediately took a place in the rock arsenal. In 1958, it received a major makeover with the double-cut (DC) body design, which provides unrestricted access to all the frets. However, the DC model was discontinued during 1960, in favour of the new body design that became known as the SG.

Over the years, the Double-Cut body shape has been reissued. From 1999 to 2002, Gibson produced the guitar shown here, is a Special with P-100 hum-cancelling soapbar style pickups and mini trapezoidal markers, and called it the Junior Lite.

Dobro 60D Roundneck, 1971 SOLD

Here is a cool Dobro 60D Roundneck from 1971. This instrument is not in pristine condition, but could be restored; we’ve decided to leave that for the next owner.

It’s currently set up to work lap-style – with a steel rather than a slide – and in that configuration, it’s quite playable and sounds good!
