This beautiful instrument is from the shop of Henner Hagenlocher in Granada. Hagenlocher studied in Hamburg under Michael Wichmann in the early 1990’s, and moved to Granada in 1996. This excellent condition example is from 2011 and features spruce top and African Blackwood. It plays well with a full tone, reminiscent of Brazilian-rosewood guitars.

Introduced in 1937 for Ray Whitely, the J-200 shot to the top of the shelf for country and movie performers. It’s also been used on many classic rock recordings.
MORE →Hammertone instruments are built in George Furlanetto’s workshop in Hamilton, Ontario. The Mandotar was discontinued some years ago but really work well for a variety of purposes. Lots of very full chimey sounds, much like a mandolin but with all the options of a 12-string guitar. The strings load half from the back of the guitar, and half from the back of the bridge.
