Gibson RB-250 Mastertone 5-String Banjo 1962 SOLD

Gibson RB-250 Mastertone 5-String Banjo 1962 SOLD

There has been some discussion on the hardware used on this banjo. The RB-250 did not come factory in gold but that said, in 1962 Gibson would fill virtually any custom request. The hardware shows none of the pitting typical of re-plated hardware. Also the cost to upgrade after the banjo was built would have been huge so we are going on the theory that this was a custom order. Tailpiece: I found several of these gold-plated tailpieces in the boxes of 1960s Gibson hardware I acquired when Gibson Canada shut down in 1979. So I am assuming they were stock Gibson issue for at least a few of their gold plated banjos, though I’ve never seen any. I gather they were made by Elton but am happy for input from anybody out there who knows more.

Gibson B B King Lucille 2004 (consignment) – SOLD

Gibson B B King Lucille 2004 (consignment) - SOLD

The Gibson B B King Lucille is a wonderful and relatively rare instrument. This example is in excellent condition with very little fret or finish wear. The fully closed body reduces the possibility of feedback, and the access plate on the back allows for a much easier time servicing controls – on traditional F-hole bodies, all the parts go through the pickup openings or the F-holes, so service (which will always eventually be required) can be a very time-consuming and frustrating task. The fine-tuner tailpiece is actually a really good idea for quick tuning tweaks, bypassing the backlash effect that all geared tuning gears have – this effect is why you need to always tune up to a note.

Gibson J-100 Xtra 2004 (Consignment) SOLD

Gibson J-100 Xtra 2004 (Consignment) SOLD

Based on the classic J-200, and built under the supervision of Ren Ferguson, the J-100 is a somewhat stripped-down version with less of the decoration but all of the quality. The top is unencumbered by the traditional large and thick pickguard, and so is a little livelier and more resonant. Lots of bass, and overall a very nice guitar.
