MORE →The National Pioneer RP1 ensures that association will remain. Old-world craftsmanship meets modern design in our first steel, hollow-body electric. The National Reso-Phonic Pioneer RP1 combines an audiophile-quality bridge pickup with a vintage-style Lollar P-90 neck pickup. An on-board active circuit allows for a wide range of tones. A slim neck profile and narrow string spacing complete this hybrid instrument. With the quality artistry expected in a National, the Pioneer is a unique update to the traditional steel-bodied guitar.

MORE →The Michael Messer Lightning is a nickel-plated bell brass body, 1930’s style 12-fret single cone resonator guitar, intended to provide the tone and vibe of a vintage blues guitar, and it does this well. You get the vintage look and tone, but with modern playability and reliability at an affordable price. These are great instruments for fingerstyle and bottleneck blues playing. The Michael Messer Lightning has the characteristic attack, projection, resonance and volume of a ‘steel body’ guitar. As expected, it’s bright, but with a warmth and depth that avoid harshness and add a sweetness to the edge. The modern features include an adjustable truss rod.
Just in – a National Reso-Phonic Wocket Wooden Rocket! This mahogany laminate version has all the features of the very popular National Reso-Rocket, but with the extra warmth and growl wood provides.
The ‘Wocket’ designation is limited to a very, very few instruments. Steve James refers to his orginal prototype as the ‘Wocket’, and the first few production models are marked as ‘Wocket’ on the label, but subsequent models won’t carry that name on the label.

MORE →A couple of times every year, we are lucky enough to get our hands on one of these beauties: the Resonator Concert Maple Ukulele from National Guitars. In the past, we have featured a few Custom versions with extra detailing and appointments. Today, we have the standard version available; same great sound and feel at an even better price. This instrument is a performer’s dream. Thanks to the 5 7/8″ spun resonator cone, the National Uke gives more volume and punch than any other Uke available. Most guitarists, myself included, get hand cramps just looking at a standard soprano Uke, but the National is built to a 15″ concert scale, making it far more comfortable to play. The Grover 4 B tuners are smooth and accurate, and like every instrument National builds, the quality and craftsmanship is top notch.
